Above and Below. Averse

STRUCK TOMBAC. Ø 6 CM

Quod est inferius est sicut quod est superius, (The thing above is the same which is below,) - Averse.

et quod est superius est sicut quod est inferius. (the thing below is the same which is above.) - Reverse.

I made this two-sided stamped medal for the International Symposium of Medalists in the Slovak town of Kremnica.

The participants were offered to represent in their artworks  the following theme "Microcosm and Macrocosm". I always felt something interesting and mysterious about the famous phrase from “Tabla de smarald" by Hermes Trismegistus: “The thing that is below is similar to the one which is above. And the thing which is above is similar to the one which is below". And that was exactly what I illustrated with a sense of irony. Have you ever noticed that the clouds in the sky very often resemble curly sheep? This is exactly as it is: there are real herds on the earth, while there are the same in the sky, but made of clouds. This is a joke, of course.

The medal was stamped at the Slovak State  Mint, located in the same Kremnica.
